horn solos

Sonata No.1
by Luigi Cherubini
trans. Harry Stanton
The Cherubini Sonatas are a mainstay of the horn players repertoire. The Sonata No.1, is a beautiful flowing lyrical composition in ABA form. In this transcription the original flavor of the work is retained by holding true to the original horn part and modifying the string parts for the rest of the brass quintet. I hope you enjoy playing these transcriptions and agree that Cherubini’s music should be heard more often.

Christmas Carol Suite
Arranged by John Jay Hilfiger
Mr. Hilfiger has set five beloved carols: Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel, What Child is This? Joy to the World, Good Christian Men, Rejoice, and Away in a Manger, for horn and piano. “Hilfiger has given us arrangements that are in a good range, and not too technically difficult, but with an interesting balance of piano and soloist so as to provide some variety in color and focus. Occasionally, the melodies are embellished which is a nice touch. This is a good traditional set to have for younger players or emergency Christmas church gigs.” The Horn Call. February, 2006
