Yoruba Wedding Dance is a lively dance based on the rhythmic and harmonic framework of a popular West African dance band music called “Highlife.” The principal theme is borrowed from a Yoruba popular wedding song called “Awa l’egbe oni’awo” (We are members of the bride’s group). The theme bounces among the instruments to create different shades of color, contrast, and nuance.

Trombone Johnsen is an enjoyable tune that began life as a ragtime cakewalk in 1902. the composer, E.J. Stark, and his father published Scott Joplin’s earliest work, Maple Leaf Rag. Henry Stanton has skillfully arranged this piano solo into an entertaining arrangement for brass quintet. Professional musicians will enjoy playing it, and its moderate ranges for all instruments make it suitable even for high school performances.
