brass trios

Ode to Joy
by Ludwig van Beethoven
arr. Michael Stewart
Possibly, originally, this melody was a folk tune, however, when a master like Beethoven turned his glance on this melody it became one of the most recognized in the world. First used in his Choral Fantasy, but most notably his Ninth Symphony, this arrangement for brass trio [two trumpets, trombone w/piano – optional horn part for the second trumpet] is certainly a work that can be well used and programmed in many different settings.

Trumpet Voluntary
by Jeremiah Clarke
trans. Walt Oliver
This is one of the most well-known pieces from the Baroque era. It is a standard at weddings and other ceremonial gatherings and works well as a concert opener or as an encore piece. This transcription is for a brass trio of trumpet, horn, and trombone.

Scholastic Edition Three Hymn Preludes
by John Jay Hilfiger
Each of the three pieces in this collection comes from a different geographic area and a different historical era. O Word of God Incarnate, Christ the Lord is Risen Today, and Beautiful Savior are frequently heard works and everyone will enjoy hearing them in these fine settings. Dr. Hilfiger has written them for standard brass trio so they may be used in church settings or as introductory ensemble pieces.

Brass Trio No.1
by Ken Langer
The charm of this work lies in its attractive simplicity. This trio for trumpet in Bb, horn, and trombone has endearing beauty.
WM #208…$9.00

Brass Trio No.2
by Ken Langer
Langer originally conceived this piece as the slow, second movement to a larger work for trumpet, horn and trombone. He later expanded it to become a complete work in itself. Pensive in style, it affords each member of the ensemble beautiful solo lines.
WM #225…$6.00

Journey to the Center
by Ken Langer
The last movement of what was originally a suite for brass trio [see Mr. Langer’s trios for brass No.1 and No.2]. This work brings a joie de vivre that is rhythmic as well as melodic.

Sonata K.491
by Dominico Scarlatti
trans. Mark Prater
Dominico Scarlatti was a prolific writer of keyboard works with more than 500 to his credit over his lifetime. This brief delightful piece is but one example of his resourcefulness when that form was in its infancy. Mr. Prater’s transcription is for the standard brass trio (trumpet, horn, trombone).

Trio for Brass Op.1
by Jamie Wehr
The trio is a three movement work designed on classic proportions. The three movements, Marching Onward Into the Dark Abyss, Romance, and A Theme and Three Variations, provide abundant opportunities for the ensemble to display its proficiency and for the individual instrumentalists to perform lyrical melodies. Here is a fresh new piece for an ensemble of trumpet, horn, and trombone.
